One of the most delightful culinary specialties of southern France is Camargue rice, which is grown in the marshlands between the Mediterranean Sea and the two arms of the Rhône River delta. The Camargue spreads across the départements of Bouches-du-Rhône, Gard, and Hérault.

The Camargue is a nature lover's paradise with its unspoiled landscapes, wild beaches, and picturesque villages, making it a must-visit destination for a varied day-trip.  This expansive wetland is known for its diverse wildlife, and distinctive culture. It is famous for its pink flamingos, white horses, black bulls, and its production of salt, as well as high-quality rice.

With its nutty flavor and rich aroma, this short-grain rice is an essential ingredient in many traditional Provençal dishes and makes a fantastic ingredient in modern nutritious dishes such as buddha bowls, salads and stuffed vegetables.

For an authentic taste of the local food culture, we recommend visiting the famous bustling weekly market in the nearby town of Uzès. Here, you can sample an array of local specialties, including Camargue rice. The market is a vibrant hub of activity, with colourful stalls selling fresh produce, meats, cheeses, and more.

Our authentic apartment near Uzès is within easy drive to The Camargue, and  is a great spot to explore this region which is popular with gastronomes and those who support organic food production.
